Circulation Code
Semester Borrowers
This circulation code defines the privileges and responsibilities of University of Nevada, Reno graduate students, letter of appointment faculty, and Continuing Education faculty who borrow materials from the University of Nevada, Reno Libraries.
Library cards
- Library cards are required for all transactions. To obtain a library card, bring a valid University of Nevada, Reno identification (UNR ID) card to Getchell Library Circulation Desk or a branch library service desk. Photo IDs are required for UNR faculty and are obtained at the ID Center in Jot Travis Student Union.
- Letter of appointment faculty and continuing education faculty cards are renewed twice a year at the beginning of the Spring and Fall semesters when contracts are renewed or new staff cards are issued.
Loan periods
- Books may be borrowed until the end of each semester as follows:
- Spring semester - May 15
- Summer session - August 15
- Fall semester - December 15
- Books will be recalled if requested by another borrower.
- RESERVE books may be checked out for 2 hours, 12 hours, 3 days or 7 days, as determined for the specific material.
- Journals in the Main Library are non-circulating.
- Journals in the Engineering Library, Life and Health Sciences Library, and Savitt Medical Library may be checked out for three days. Bound journals in the Mines Library check out for three days. Unbound journal issues in the Mines Library do not circulate.
Book Renewals
- Any book checked out may be renewed prior to the expiration date.
For renewal, books no longer need to be brought in. Renewals can
now be done in one of several ways:
- Telephone. 682-5625
- Online (if done by May 15). Renew books online
- In person. Just drop by the Circulation Desk with your card.
- Semester borrowers are expected to cooperate in preserving the completeness and accessibility of the library's collections by returning books that are not being used.
Recall of books
- All books are subject to recall if another borrower or the Reserve Desk supervisor requests the book. If a book has been recalled it must be returned no later than the date printed on the recall notice. The date on the recall notice supersedes the original due date.
- A borrower who will be absent from the area for more than one week must insure that material due the library or recalled by the library during such absences is returned in accordance with library policies.
Holds and searches
- Placing a HOLD on a book reserves that book for the requester. If the library catalog indicates a book is checked out, click the Request button (at top of full record display) to prevent the book from being renewed.
- If the book you want is missing, you may place a SEARCH on it. You will be notified by mail or email when the book is returned or located. In accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes, information regarding the current borrower of a book will not be disclosed.
Overdue and lost items
- All books are due as marked. When a book becomes overdue, a bill for the replacement cost of the book plus a $10.00 processing fee and a $5.00 billing fee for each overdue book will be mailed. The charges will be reduced to the $5.00 billing fee if the book is returned. The fine for overdue recalled items is $.25 per day, to a maximum of $5.00 per book.
