[graphic: books]Course Reserve Guidelines
for Students

Materials placed on reserve by instructors are available for restricted circulation. The collection consists of library and personal copies of books, articles, pamphlets, sample exams, homework solutions, videos and cassettes for class assignments.

Reserve Locations

Generally, reserve materials are located in the library that houses materials for that particular discipline, i.e. biology class reserves in the Life & Health Sciences Library, English class reserves in the Getchell Library, geology reserves in the DeLaMare Library. Specifically, reserve materials are found at the Circulation Desk of the Getchell Library and at the Service Desks in all branch libraries.

Reserve Circulation

Reserve materials may be checked out with a current library card.

Reserve Lists

Reserves can be searched on the online catalog by course or by instructor's name. Multimedia Center reserves are not available online.

Loan Periods

Loan periods for reserve items are set by the instructor. These periods may be 2 hour/overnight (can be checked out for two hours at a time or two hours before the library closes and due one hour after the library opens the next day), 12 hour, 3 day and 7 day. Multimedia Center reserve loan periods are for 2 hour/library use only. Occasionally an instructor may request a 2 hour/overnight loan period. Students using reserve audio tapes have the option of duplicating the tapes with the existing equipment or listening to them in the Multimedia Center.

Overdue Fines

Overdue fines are $1.00 per hour for hourly reserves and $5.00 per day for 3 day and 7 day reserves. The maximum fine is $20.00 per item, plus a $50.00 replacement fee. No overdue notice is mailed for reserve materials, though a bill will be sent for a lost item.

Where to Return Reserve Materials

Reserve materials must be returned to the library where they were checked out. Getchell Library reserves may be returned to the outside book drop only during hours the library is closed.

Renewals

Reserve materials may be renewed, in person, unless another user is waiting for the item.

Nevada Collection

A collection of books about Nevada is available at the Circulation Desk of the Getchell Library. These items check out for one day.

Permanent Reserve

These are collections of library materials that require security not available in the general book stacks. These items may be checked out the same as other reserves, except that the loan period is 2 hour library use only.
