Library Service Policy

The University Libraries endeavor to provide assistance and instruction which lead users to independent research, regardless of their ability. Though staff limitations make extensive individual assistance impossible, every effort will be made to assist users with reasonable requests to obtain needed information.

Library & Campus Services

Students with disabilities who require extensive assistance should contact the Disability Resource Center in the Thompson Building, 784-6000. It may be necessary to schedule appointments for services provided by this office.

Other library users may be able to obtain assistance by contacting the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living (353-3599 voice or TDD), or the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at the Nevada State Library (voice 687-5154, TDD 687-8338 or toll free from Nevada 800-922-9334.

Access to Getchell Library

There is a ramp on the west side of Getchell Library. The far right door of the main entrance, on the south side of the building, has a push-plate for wheelchair access.

Access to the Branch Libraries

Ramps, elevators or lifts provide access to the branch libraries. Specific directions for disabled access may be obtained by calling the branch needed or by using the Disabled Accessibility Map, available at public service desks. [Note: Branch library hours do not necessarily match those of Getchell Library.]
