The UNR Libraries have a growing collection of eBooks from netLibrary, books24/7, and other sources. A UNR NetID is required for off-campus access. Note that netLibrary and books24x7 also require free user registration to access eBooks.
- netLibrary
- Academic and general interest books on a wide range of subjects, including eBooks in the public domain. See Using netLibrary (top 3 hints!) or netLibrary Help (detailed).
- To "checkout" netLibrary titles, you must have a personal netLibrary account. To create one, click "create an account" on the netLibrary home page. Then select a user name and password.
- books24x7
- Books on information technology, computer science, web development, e-commerce, and business administration from major publishers. Help for books24x7.
- New books24x7 users are required to register, using their UNR campus e-mail address. AFTER you register, you will immediately receive an e-mail with login instructions from books24x7. Please read it before you continue!
- Past Masters
- Search or browse scholarly editions and translations of classic published and unpublished texts in the humanities, particularly Western philosophy and English letters. Includes the Oxford Classical Dictionary. More information and links to individual databases.
- ACLS History E-Book Project
- Over 950 eBooks from the American Council of Learned Societies. View list of titles.
- SourceOECD Books
- High-quality eBooks on economic, environmental, and social issues from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, an intergovernmental organization with 30 member countries. Select Book Series or Books by Theme in the Go to drop-down box. To search within SourceOECD Books, click the Books Tab at top of screen.

Depending on copyright status or Googles publisher partners, you may see excerpts, sample chapters, of full-text books in addition to information about a particular book.

- ALEX: A Catalogue of Electronic Texts. A collection of public domain documents in English literature, American literature, and Western philosophy.
- Bartleby Library. Great Books Online. Search full text of collection by keyword.
- E-Editions. University of California Press. Subjects: African studies, Classics, European history, literature, Middle Eastern studies, and South Asian studies. Text of online books is fully searchable. Some books are available to the public; others, restricted to University of California affiliates.
- National Academy Press. Over 1,500 scholarly books. Search for a specific title, author, or subject. Browse by Category.
- Project Gutenberg. Thousands of important books, particularly literary works, in the public domain are available for download from this volunteer organization. Help/FAQ.
- The On-Line Books Page. Indexes eTexts at various sites, including those listed above.
Environment
- International Development Research Centre (Canada).Results of research on global and regional issues related to sustainable and equitable development. Topic areas: economics, environment & biodiversity, food & agriculture, health, information & communication, natural resources, science & technology, social & political sciences, development, general.
History
- Making of America. Digital library of primary sources in American social history from the antebellum period through reconstruction. The collection is strong in education, psychology, American history, sociology, religion, and science & technology. Contains 8,500 books and 50,000 journal articles with 19th century imprints.

Literature
- Literature Collection. Currently has 70+ books and 600 short stories by famous authors. All works are in the public domain. Search by author or book.
- Project Gutenberg. Thousands of important books, particularly literary works, in the public domain are available for download from this volunteer organization. Help/FAQ.
- Read Print. Public domain classics. Search by author or title. Has a special Shakespeare section, "Search within the Book" option, and a selection of articles for literature majors.
Technology
- FreeTechBooks.Com. Free online computer science books and lecture notes on C and C++, Java, programming, algorithms, and other topics of interest to computer science students.
- PLT Online. Programming Language Theory Texts Online. Selected out-of-print reference works and lecture notes.
- Free Computer Books. Topical organization. Some of the links do go to online books, but some go to excerpts, web-based tutorials or other pages based on books, and some links go to marketing sites. This is a large site that's worth exploring if you pay attention to what is freely available and what is not.
