UNR Citation Finder Frequently Asked Questions
Back to Citation Finder form
- What is a citation?
- A citation is the information needed to locate the article (or book)
you are interested in reading.
For articles, a complete citation generally includes:
-
The author's name
-
The
title of the article
-
The name of the journal in which the article is
located
-
The volume number of the journal (and sometimes the issue number)
-
The
date when the journal issue was published
-
The page numbers on which the
article is located
Example: Moore, Robert L., We're Cool, Mom and Dad Are Swell: Basic Slang
and Generational Shifts in Values,
American Speech, Volume 79,
Number 1, 2004, Pages 59-86.
- What is Citation Finder?
- Citation Finder helps you quickly find
a specific article when you already have the citation. It will display
a direct link to full-text when it can locate the article in the UNR
electronic journal collections. Citation Finder
does not search all journals to which UNR libraries have access, but
it searches most of them. Therefore, it's worth a try and may save you
time!
- How does Citation Finder
work?
- Simply enter the journal title, year, volume (issue) number, and
start page from your citation into the Citation Finder
form! Then click the Find It! button. For example:

Only the journal title and year are required for Citation
Finder to work, but we strongly encourage you to also fill in
the volume (issue) number and start page number if you know them so
that Citation Finder can get you as close to
the full-text article as possible.
If Citation Finder does not locate your article,
click the Go button next to "Check the catalog for availability in the
UNR Libraries" in the Basic Services, Local Holdings menu.
Citation Finder is powered by the SFX
Find It @ UNR Service. See our
About SFX page and SFX
FAQ page for more information about this service.
