Library Catalog

The Library catalog lists books, journals (not articles, just journal titles), government publications, and media that the library owns or to which UNR users have access. The default "subject" search looks for words in the title, author, subject headings, and contents notes (usually chapter or section headings). The "subject" search is an excellent way to begin exploring the Library catalog. When you find a good book on your topic, look for the Subjects (Library of Congress subject headings) in the full catalog record. Click an underlined subject to do a new search. Every book is assigned one or more subject headings that relate to the major focus of the work. The Library also has a special catalog called the Basque Database, which has many resources on the Basque Diaspora and all things Basque.

• Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost)
  • Indexes 7,800+ scholarly journals, with full text for 4,000 titles. Covers social sciences, humanities, education, computer science and engineering, general science, medicine, ethnic studies, and more. 1965- present for selected titles.

• Ethnic NewsWatch
  • Articles, editorials, reviews, etc. from newspapers, magazines, and journals of the ethnic, minority, and native press. Search in English or Spanish. 1990 - present.
    Sample Search:
    Type activism in the search box. Pick any ethnic group from the limit options dropdown box. Scroll through the results.
• Alt-Press Watch
  • Indexes newspapers, magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press. Covers a broad range of critical issues confronting contemporary society. 1994- present.

• America History & Life
  • Index of journal articles, dissertations and book reviews on all aspects of North American history (United States and Canada).
• Sociological Abstracts
  • Indexes the international literature of sociology and related behavioral sciences from over 1,700 journals, books and book chapters, dissertations and proceedings. Since 2001, many records include references cited.
• PsycINFO
  • The online version of Psychological Abstracts, indexing journal articles, book chapters, and dissertations from 1887 to the present.
• SAGE Full Text Collections
  • Search one or any combination of peer-reviewed journal collections in communication studies, criminology, education, politics and international relations, psychology, and sociology. Full-text access to 75 journals. Coverage varies, with some titles going back to 1982.
• Bibliography of Native North Americans
  • Indexes books, articles, essays, conference papers, and U.S. and Canadian government publications about: Aleuts; Eskimos or Inuit of Greenland, northern Canada, Alaska, and eastern Siberia; and other native peoples of Alaska, Canada, the U. S., and Mexico. 16th Century - present.
• Associations Unlimited
  • Directory of more than 154,000 detailed listings for international, national, state, and regional organizations. IRS information for more than 300,000 nonprofit organizations.

Electronic Journals

• Electronic Journals: General information, Quick Title Search, subject and alphabetical lists
  • Use the search box for fast access to specific electronic journals. Selected subject lists provide an overview of what is available (examples: Sociology Journals, Psychology Journals). A comprehensive search for a specific journal should include both the library catalog and the eJournal search because some journals are not available in electronic format.
• Many indexes and databases have direct links to full-text articles, but some do not. The majority of our databases include Find It! or SFX buttons that lead to a menu of access options for articles and books. Look for these buttons in search results:

• If you need to locate a specific article try our Citation Finder. If that doesn't work for you, look up the journal title (not the article title) in the library catalog or Quick Search for Titles. If UNR does not have access to the journal, request an Interlibrary Loan. Journal articles are now delivered on the Web whenever possible!

U.S. Government Resources

You will find government publications in search results as you explore the library catalog. Many government resources are now on the Web, and a few are listed below. Try Google Unclesam to search the Web for more.

• Association of MultiEthnic Americans. AMEA's primary goal is to promote a positive awareness of interracial and multiethnic identity, for ourselves and for society as a whole.
• Hapa Issues Forum. Hapa refers to the Hawaiian phrase hapa haole ("half white/foreigner"), a person of partial Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry.
