General Rules and Reserving Policy: Faculty Studies
Effective date: September 1, 2006

There are 15 faculty study carrels located on the second floor of Getchell Library, adjacent to the Business and Government Information Center. These studies are reserved for use by current UNR faculty and emeritus faculty. Requests from graduate students or other non-faculty members will be approved on a space-available basis.

The studies are small, about 5' x 8' with a desk and chair. There are electrical outlets for use of a laptop. Library materials kept in the studies must be properly checked out. Occupants should be mindful that they share the study with someone else.

Studies are assigned for either morning or afternoon sessions. During the academic school year times are (8 a.m. - 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. - closing); Summer sessions (8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. - closing).

Personal belongings of value should not be left in the studies.
 

Regulations for the use of faculty studies

A $10.00 deposit will be charged for the key when the study is assigned. If the key is not returned to the Library Dean's office at the end of the designated assignment or if the key is lost the deposit will be forfeited and an additional $10.00 will be assessed to have the lock replaced and new keys made. The Library Dean's Office will not open a study for any person other than the one to whom the key was originally issued.

All materials in the studies must be properly checked out at the Circulation desk. The studies will be inspected periodically and any uncharged or non-circulating materials will be removed and returned to the shelves. The faculty member will receive a notice that uncharged material has been found in the study. Should more uncharged library materials be found on subsequent inspections, the faculty member's study privileges will be rescinded.

Unauthorized students are not allowed in the study area, nor are they allowed to store materials in studies. Studies should not be used as an office or conference room. Faculty studies may be used only by the individuals to whom they are assigned.

  1. Drink and food may be consumed in the study but must be discarded when leaving. Food cannot be stored in the study.
  2. No library furniture or equipment should be moved from or placed into a study. If you are missing a chair, lamp etc, please speak to the study coordinator. The library is not responsible for personal property used in the studies.
  3. Report any damage to the library furniture, repairs or replacements of light bulbs, or other problems to the study coordinator.
  4. The studies are not cleaned on a regular basis. Occupants should leave the garbage can outside the study door when it needs to be emptied.
  5. Assignments are from September 15 to September 15 of the following year. All studies must be renewed yearly. Failure to renew may result in removal from the study. PLEASE NOTE: When a study has not been renewed, all personal items will be stored and you will be contacted to pick them up as soon as possible. Please be sure to clear your study if you do not renew.
     

Faculty studies policy & agreement/General Policies

Applications for faculty studies will be made in writing to the Dean of Libraries on application forms available from the Library Dean's Office and on the library Web site http://www.library.unr.edu/policy/carrels.html. Studies will be assigned by the Dean of Libraries based on a lottery drawing of the applications.

Because of the demand for faculty studies, assignments will be for a one-year period. At the end of the year, individuals with an existing faculty studies are invited to submit an application for the next lottery. A small number of studies will be reserved for research-active emeriti and visiting faculty

In order to accommodate as many faculty members as possible, two faculty members will be assigned to each study. In the event that there are more studies than applicants, single occupancy will be assigned via lottery.

Faculty Study Personal Effects and Regulations Agreement

I _____________________________________________, faculty study number_______ have read the Regulations for Faculty Studies and I agree to abide by these regulations. I understand that if I fail to comply with the faculty study regulations my study privileges will be revoked and I must return my key. I also understand that if my study is not renewed or I lose my study privileges, I will remove my personal items from the study as soon as possible. I also understand that if I use library materials in my study that is not checked out, the materials will be removed from the study and returned to the stacks. Repeated violations may result in loss of my study privileges.
