Samuel P. Davis was the owner and editor of the Carson daily appeal (Carson City, Nev.) and Nevada state controller. He married Nellie Verrill Mighels Davis. Their children were Robert P. Davis, Lucy Davis Crowell and Ethel Davis Wait; and a stepson Roy R. Mighels. The collection includes materials by or about Sam Davis and his family, the Corbett-Fitzsimmons boxing match, Thomas Fitch, Thomas P. Brown, Henry R. Mighels, Robert O'Brien, Theodore Winters, Lake Tahoe, and the Western States Exploration Company. Microfilm contains materials from family scrapbook.
